Shots fired near Bethell Burley Road

The wounded man was taken to St. Joseph's hospital in Tacoma

An eyewitness in Port Orchard says Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies fired more than one dozen shots at a suspect exiting a vehicle on Bethell Burley Road.

The shooting occurred just a couple of hundred yards north of Mullenix Road shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

The eyewitness reported that a man was being loaded onto a gurney shortly after the shooting. He was suffering from gunshot wound to the chest.

Sheriff’s officers had been called to the scene on a domestic violence call and were in the process of assessing whether the suspect had a gun.

Officers had asked those in the house to come outside and walk down the driveway when it appears the suspect was shot.

Officers had tried to make telephone contact with a woman inside the house where it was thought a 911 call originated, but were unable to call inside the home.

The scene was described as “chaotic” by officers at the scene via emergency dispatchers who called several medic units and Washington State Patrol to the scene.

The Sheriff’s chaplain also was called.

The wounded man was taken to St. Joseph’s hospital in Tacoma.Sheriff’s officials are expected to release an official report soon.Updates will follow.
