Mixed-media artist Denise Cormier Mahoney is the featured artist in September at the Sidney Art Gallery, 202 Sidney Ave. in Port Orchard.

Mahoney, who is based in Washington state and New Brunswick, Canada, is known for her artistic exploration of beauty and balance, according to the gallery’s news release.

“Denise Mahoney’s work is symbolic and poignant. Each piece of art bears a memory or a question she can’t get out of her mind. Lyrical and full of color, her pieces inspire reflection and curiosity,” the Sidney gallery’s release stated.

Mahoney is a graduate of Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax and Texas Tech University. She is an active member of the Women Painters of Washington in Seattle and the Federation of Canadian Artists in Granville Island, Vancouver, B.C.

Mahoney’s show will continue through Sept. 30.
