Keep all eyes on the Sidney Museum and Log Cabin Museum in the month of May.

Curators at both institutions are paying special attention the National Historic Preservation Month, and what better way to preserve history than commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Sidney Art Gallery’s construction.

The building was originally built to be a Masonic Temple, but the Masons left the building for a larger facility in the 1950s.

Since then the Sidney Museum and Arts Association took over the building since then, and has hosted local artists in a series of rotating displays.

In May the Art Gallery will hold its 38th annual Helen Norris Open Arts Show, in which local artists can display paintings and art for a small entrance fee.

During the month of May, the Log Cabin Museum will display a new show, with a mannequin family from 100 years ago.

Mannequins can be found all throughout both facilities, said Maxine Spillinger, board member of the Sidney Museum and Arts Association.

“People play with Barbies, we play with mannequins,” she said. “We’ve had everything that a family would do, all with mannequins.”

Spillinger called visiting the upper floor of the Sidney Gallery and Museum like playing “Little House On The Prairie.”
