Two women were taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton after a head-on collision at the NW Randall Way and Kitsap Mall Boulevard intersection.

Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue and Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the accident at 3:05 p.m. and closed down the road for an hour for investigation, stated Kitsap County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Wilson.

A 25-year-old driver in a 2009 Hyaundai Santa Fe with her 7-year-old son failed to yield at the light and hit the left front corner of a 1996 Subaru Legacy. The Legacy was driven by a 33-year-old Poulsbo woman who also had kids in the car, ages 5 and 4.

Both women “were complaining of” neck and back injuries, and one was taken via ambulance to the hospital, her 7-year-old son accompanying her, Wilson said.

The motions of this afternoon’s accident were the same ones that killed a motorcyclist at the intersection back in February. Recently, signs were added to remind drivers to yield to oncoming traffic.

“A lot of folks are not paying attention,” said Wilson of the intersection that has a yellow blinking light to turn left.”It is imperative for drivers who transit through that intersection to be aware of that traffic signal. You have to yield to oncoming traffic. It’s a great tool for keeping traffic moving. “

Once medical evaluations are said and done, Wilson noted it is likely the driver will be cited for “failure to yield.” It will be determined once the women are out of the hospital.
