Mingling with friends and sipping glasses of wine is not just a social outing anymore.
People can sample various wines all in the name of charity this weekend.
The third annual Wine, Wags and Whiskers wine tasting event will take place from 6-9 p.m. this Saturday, March 22 at Tucker’s at Gold Mountain Golf Course, located at 7263 West Belfair Valley Road (Old Belfair Highway) in Bremerton. Proceeds from the event benefit the Kitsap Humane Society (KHS).
“It’s just an opportunity to be able to mix and mingle with other people who support homeless animals,” KHS Development Manager Dana Lerma said.
Wineries from Bainbridge Island, Fairwinds and Hoodsport will offer up a variety of their palate-pleasing wines for guests to sip on while enjoying hors d’oeuvres courtesy of Tucker’s.
“There will be delicious foods that will be available,” Lerma said.
Jeff Berger, “the wine guru,” will educate people on how to properly enjoy Washington state’s finest wines.
Spring gardening baskets, dog treats and small trips are just a few of the 25-30 items up for bid in the silent auction. Wine, Wags and Whiskers also will feature a raffle and music throughout the evening.
Lerma said office attire is appropriate for the charity event.
“It’s not shorts and Hawaiian shirts, but it’s not a dressy function, it’s a fun function,” she said.
Lerma said Wine, Wags and Whiskers raised about $5,000 last year and KHS would like to see a similar amount of money brought in to help the animals housed at the shelter and make improvements to the aging facility.
“We’re hoping to raise at least $5,000,” Lerma said.
Tickets for Wine, Wags and Whiskers cost $55 each and can be purchased at the humane society on Dickey Road in Silverdale or the main kiosk at Kitsap Mall.
