KINGSTON — A “sizable donation” will be revealed at a public fundraising kickoff for the new Kingston Community Center, proposed for the Village Green.
A source close to the donation said he could not disclose the source or amount, but called it “sizable.”
It’s bound to give a shot in the arm to the fundraising campaign, which gets under way Jan. 26, 3 p.m., at the Village Green Picnic Pavilion.
The event is called “Gather for the Green.” Those attending will participate in a group photo, forming the outline of the new community center. Next, there will be a parade to the existing community center, where local producers will offer soup and bread and participants can hear the latest news about the building design, the new library, funding and more.
The new community center, a project of the Kingston Village Green Foundation, will house a Boys & Girls Club, a Senior Center, a community kitchen, meeting rooms and the new Kingston branch library.
The library will take up 5,000 square feet in the center, a significant increase from the existing 1,200-square-foot facility in the existing community center on Highway 104.
Kitsap Regional Library has advertised a request for qualifications for architectural firms interested in designing the library interior. The Village Green Foundation has engaged architect Miles Yanich to design the building, but KRL will be responsible for the design of the interior of its space and also will provide construction drawings for its part of the building so the entire job can be bid as one project.
Foundation executive director Nick Jewett said the foundation has raised $4.1 million in state and foundation grants and private pledges, and needs to raise another $1.5 million. This event marks the kickoff of the final drive to complete funding for the project.
