Come February, 3 million copies of a picture drawn by a South Kitsap teen will reach mailboxes across the state.

Casey Armstrong of South Kitsap High School submitted a picture to the Secretary of State, along with other students across the state, to adorn the front of Washington’s 2008 Presidential Primary Voters’ Pamphlet.

Armstrong’s picture shows various arms of different ethnicities holding a pencil over a ballot, with a capitol building and a collection of demonstrators fading in off of one of the arms.

Secretary of State Sam Reed delivered the news to Armstrong during her art class on Friday, where she received a blow-up image of her design and a laptop computer.

Armstrong explained that the theme of the contest was “to get involved and vote” so she created an image to represent how a vote can affect the community.

Reed notes that this was a major presidential primary, the first in years that did not include an incumbent president or a vice president in the race.

“When this election comes up, there’s going to be 3 million copies of a voters pamphlet going out, and they’re all going to have your art,” Reed said.
