A 22-year-old South Kitsap woman was hospitalized Wednesday after being attacked by a bull, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
As of 2:45 p.m. Friday, a spokeswoman for Tacoma General Hospital said the woman had been upgraded to stable condition.
According to the incident report, two volunteers from the Sheriff’s Office’s Citizen on Patrol(COPS) came to a home on East Hilldale Road in South Kitsap to conduct a vehicle identification number (VIN) check on a car Sept. 30. The vehicle was parked inside a livestock pasture owned by the victim’s family.
The volunteers were a 64-year-old man and a 75-year-old man who entered the pasture with the victim shortly before 11 a.m. Also inside the pasture were two cows and one bull.
While the volunteers were looking at the vehicle, the bull became aggressive toward the woman and pinned her against the front of the vehicle.
The 64-year-old volunteer distracted the bull, and the other man was able to help the female victim up and out of the pasture. While the other two people left the pasture, the 64-year-old slipped and fell and the bull began to “head-butt” him.
After getting back up and knocked back down several times by the bull, the volunteer was finally able to free himself from the animal by grabbing its nose and squeezing it.
The animal backed up and the volunteer left the pasture, losing his radio in the struggle.
Deputies and personnel from South Kitsap Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, and both victims were transported to local hospitals for medical care.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson said the bull was not harmed or removed.
