A 21-year-old South Kitsap woman was hit by her friend’s car Halloween night while apparently trying to stop the other woman from driving drunk, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office reported.
According to the report, the incident began around 11 p.m. Oct. 31 at a restaurant on the 12200 block of Sidney Road. When deputies arrived on scene, they discovered the victim, who appeared to be intoxicated, with wounds on her knees and mud on her clothing.
When asked what happened, she said she standing near her friend’s car, trying to stop her from driving drunk. She said she did not remember what happened after that and did not know how she was hurt.
A deputy then contacted the 22-year-old Port Orchard woman who was reportedly the driver of the vehicle that struck the victim. The suspect was being treated by South Kitsap Fire and Rescue personnel for a minor head wound — she had apparently been attacked by the victim after she was struck — and reportedly smelled “strongly of alcohol.”
When asked what happened, the suspect said she wasn’t going to drive away, she was just going to move her car and then sleep in it.
When asked, she admitted to have “two beers and two shots of whisky.”
The deputy then placed her under arrest and booked her into the Kitsap County Jail for DUI, where her bail was set at $5,000.
