POULSBO — It’s going to be a wet week.
The National Weather Service says North Kitsap residents can expect rain showers before 10 p.m. Tuesday, then rain and snow showers with the snow level at 400 feet and temperatures around 34. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.
Wednesday, there’s a chance of rain and snow showers before 10 a.m., then rain showers likely with snow level at 600 feet. Expect highs near 43. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
The National Weather Service forecasts rain or chance of rain through the weekend.
Because of expected cold weather conditions, the Severe Weather Shelter will open Tuesday at 6 p.m. and close Wednesday at 7 a.m. Guests will not be able to check into the shelter after 9 p.m. The shelter is located at Bremerton Food Line, 1600 12th St., Bremerton. The shelter serves all residents who require safe overnight refuge where none is available. For more information, call 211 or Jim Stowers, Kitsap Community Resources, (360) 473-2047.
The Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management reported Tuesday that cold Pacific air will continue to dominate Tuesday and, with incoming moisture, this will lead to road snow accumulations in the area. Light rain developing Tuesday afternoon will start mixing in with snow Tuesday night. The department expects new road snow accumulations down to 300-400 feet later Tuesday night. Most areas are not expected to see significant accumulations, with the exception of the areas near Hood Canal and the west side of Kitsap County. Regular night crews are working overnight and additional crews will be activated as needed.
On Wednesday, rain and snow showers are expected, with the snow level rising a few hundred feet. On Wednesday night, however, snow levels come right back down again, but not down to sea level.
This is a situation where road snow accumulations will vary according to location and time of day. It does not look like snow accumulations will be anything more than transitory below 300 feet.
Call (360) 337-5775 or visit the county’s online Inclement Weather and Emergency Information page for information related to delays or closures at county operations during inclement weather.
