POULSBO — Community members can get a taste of history with their lunch Friday at a special Kitsap County Historical Society event.

The society, which operates a museum in Bremerton, will hold a “Peaceful Picnic at Pearson Point,” at noon Aug. 8 at Pearson Point Church. The event is the third installment of the five-part “Eat Your Way through Kitsap History” fund-raiser for the society’s general operation funds.

Historical Society Board Member and fund-raiser chairwoman Nadean Ross said the idea behind the series was to highlight interesting areas across the county.

“We were looking to have meals in historic places and Pearson Point Church is the one we chose for North Kitsap,” Ross explained.

Ross said the series thus far has been well-received. There are only a few more tickets available to the Poulsbo event, and the fifth and last installment has already sold-out.

The next in the series is a Logger Breakfast at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Seabeck Conference Center.

For the Poulsbo event Friday, the early 1900s Pearson Point Church is located on private property. Ross said the church is not currently being used, however, its owners have pretty much kept it in mint condition.

“It’s well-maintained and pretty original,” Ross added.

In addition to the chance to see a piece of North Kitsap History, lunch-goers will also be regaled with tales of Poulsbo and North Kitsap steam ferries by Dennis Johnson. Johnson’s family worked for the ferry system and he has many artifacts and photos to share with history buffs.

There are only a few tickets left for the picnic at Pearson Point, but reservations will be made on a first-come, first-serveD basis until the morning of the event. Ross said the $25 ticket price may be paid at the event, however, reservations must still be made through the Kitsap County Historical Society Museum.
