KINGSTON — A damaged crab cooker and mooring lines on a dock in Kingston was one of the most significant calls North Kitsap Fire & Rescue responded to July 4.

NKF&R crews were dispatched to the dock at the Port of Kingston at 2:59 p.m. for a fire started by the crab cooker hooked up to a propane tank.

Upon arrival, the fire was out, according to NKF&R spokeswoman Michele Laboda. The man involved kicked the propane tank into the water to “end the danger,” Laboda said.

The damage wasn’t more than a damaged crab cooker, and a few burnt mooring lines.

Other than the fire on the dock, crews responded to a few grass and tree fires throughout the day; however, nothing significant happened. A few reported fires were already out when NKF&R arrived.

There were no reported injuries in NKF&R’s jurisdiction, Laboda said.

“With the amount of firework activity, I consider it incredibly fortunate,” she said of the lack of major incidents.

Ditto for the Poulsbo Fire Department, as nothing of significance occurred in Poulsbo during the July 4 celebrates, according to spokeswoman Jody Matson.
