SoundRunner to serve Seahawks playoff game

KINGSTON — The Port of Kingston’s SoundRunner passenger ferry will serve the Jan. 8 Seattle Seahawks playoff game against the New Orleans Saints at Qwest Field.

The Kingston Express will depart the port at 11 a.m. and return 45 minutes after the end of the game according to a notice on the port’s website. Kickoff for the National Football Conference Wildcard game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

The Express carried 53 people on a special trip to the Seahawks’ Jan. 2 game against the St. Louis Rams, said Port of Kingston staff member Jennifer Sommer. The port canceled its first scheduled special event trip – a Dec. 26 shopping trip to Seattle — due to lack of riders.

Regular SoundRunner commuter service to Seattle was suspended Nov. 18 for repairs to the Spirit of Kingston ferry and general service improvements. Port commissioners haven’t announced when daily service will resume.

Commission Chair Pete DeBoer said he hopes the special event trips will help build interest in the service.
