PORT ORCHARD — The South Kitsap Chamber of Commerce has been named an AWB (Association of Washington Business) Grassroots Alliance Advocate of the Year.
The business organization said the chamber, led by executive director Matt Murphy, “has advocated for its members over the past year by sharing information and connecting with state leaders during the many challenges of the pandemic.”
Examples cited by AWB included the chamber engaging with state lawmakers through newspaper ad campaigns questioning the need for new taxes as small businesses fought to recover from COVID-19; sharing the employer story on “Capitol Focus,” AWB’s public affairs program, and working with state and federal officials to get relief to struggling small businesses.
“When employers need help, they turn to their local chambers of commerce for resources and information,” AWB president Kris Johnson said during the award presentation on Oct. 14.
“The South Kitsap Chamber of Commerce continues to fight for employers, especially small businesses, during an especially challenging time for many. This leadership gives voice to employers throughout Washington, to Olympia and our nation’s capital.”
