South Kitsap High School’s athletic medicine program long has been successful in state and national competitions.

This year was no different.

They placed second among 25 schools in the California State Sports Medicine Competition earlier this month in the small-schools division, which encompasses teams with less than 15 people testing, in Pasadena. Jenny Ach placed fifth for South in the advanced section. Lindsay James, Holly Lider, Kyle Littlewolf, Josh Pronovost, Trisha Tremper, Samantha Walsh, Allyson Willoughby and Ashley Wittig also competed for the Wolves.

South also placed second last weekend in the Washington Vocational Sports Medicine Association Symposium and State Competition at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound. There were 45 teams, including ones from Arizona, California and Texas, and more than 600 students competing. The Wolves finished second — 27 points (out of 3,000 possible) behind Wenatchee.

Ach was honored as the individual state champion at that event and won a $250 scholarship. Others who placed for South include Tremper (sixth), Willoughby (10th), Kim Bertapelle (11th), Mark Jones (17th), James (19th), Chris Johnson (22nd) and Littlewolf (38th).
