The South Kitsap High School video team was among eight high schools and two universities that were among 10 finalists in a contest to win the world’s smallest HD mobile production vehicle.

NewTek announced Dec. 16 that Centennial High School of Peoria, Ariz., was the contest winner. The winner received NewTek’s smart car HD production vehicle and the other finalists will each receive a TriCaster 40, worth $6,000.

The 10 finalists were selected from hundreds of entries in the 48 contiguous states and District of Columbia, all of which have active video production programs for students.

In the first stage of the contest, 10 finalists were selected on the basis of a 500-word essay explaining why their school would be best to receive the car, including their plans for integrating the production vehicle into their sports production programs.

Judging was based on the quality and creativity of the submissions. In the second stage, the 10 finalists produced a video entry that creatively demonstrates why their school should take home the grand prize. A panel of judges, including sports video production professionals, determined the winner.
