A South Kitsap man who allegedly crashed his car into the side of a house in South Colby was arrested Tuesday while walking to a shopping center on Mile Hill Drive, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson said the suspect was arrested around noon July 1 after a witness who had reportedly taken photos of the the 23-year-old suspect walking away from the crash Saturday afternoon recognized him and called 911.

“He was then arrested and booked into (Kitsap County Jail), for felony hit and run,” said Wilson, explaining that the suspect was also accompanied by the male passenger who had been riding in his car during the crash.

According to the report, the incident began about 4:10 p.m. when residents near the 9600 block of Harper Hill Road saw the suspect’s teal Honda Civic two-door traveling at a high-rate of speed before it apparently flew into the air and crashed into a Dodge Ram pick-up before stopping inside the garage the truck was parked near.

Both vehicles had also damaged an RV parked inside the garage.

The 23-year-old resident of the home told deputies she contacted the driver shortly after the crash and said he smelled like he had been drinking. Apparently uninjured, the suspect then began to walk away from the crash while at least one witness took photos of him with a digital camera.

When deputies arrived on-scene, they contacted a 34-year-old man who identified himself as the passenger in the suspect’s vehicle. The deputies noted he also smelled of alcohol and had “numerous lacerations on his back.”

He went on to tell deputies that the driver of the Honda had been trying to “jump the hills” on the road, and that the car was traveling “at least 100 m.p.h.”

According to the report, near the area of the crash the road “makes a sharp, 90 degree curve to the right,” with a suggested speed limit of 10 m.p.h.

The vehicle was impounded, and while searching it deputies located “several empty cans of beer, two unopened cans of beer and an empty bottle of rum.”

After his arrest, the suspect was booked into jail for felony hit and run and driving with a suspended license. He was held under $5,000 bail.
