South Kitsap slammed by winter storm

Between two and six inches of snow combined with frigid temperatures and high winds have created treacherous conditions in South Kitsap.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated at 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.

Puget Sound Energy currently reports 44,000 customers without power and has requested 25 crews in addition to the nine in the County to restore power.

For power outages and downed electrical lines, call Puget Sound Energy’s hotline at (888) 225-5773.

Many roads remain dangerous to travel on with power lines, downed trees, and abandoned cars.

Kitsap County residents are highly encouraged to stay off the roads and remain at home if possible.

The EOC is in the process of finding warming shelter for those in need.

If you need emergency assistance call 911.

For non-life threatening issues call the Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management (360) 307-5871.

Updates will be published as information becomes available.
