South Kitsap toddler found floating in pool

A 14-month-old South Kitsap boy was found floating face-down in a wading pool Sunday evening, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

Spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson said that a “hysterical” woman called 911 at 4:59 p.m. July 5 and “said that her son had just drowned.”

Seconds later, the call from the 2500 block of Salmonberry Road was disconnected, but Wilson said a neighbor then called in, and contact was eventually restored with the parents of the victim.

After finding the toddler, the father initiated CPR, and Wilson said deputies arrived within two minutes of the call, and South Kitsap Fire and Rescue arrived within five minutes.

“They scooped him up, and within seven minutes were on their way to Harborview Medical Center,” he said.

Todd Kelley, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital spokesman, said Monday afternoon that the toddler was in critical condition.
