Spookiness continues in November | Port Gamble Gazette

November is a great month in Port Gamble to cozy up in the downtown businesses after a beautiful, brisk walk under a canopy of red and yellow branches. Get started on Christmas shopping as you watch our maintenance team brave the chill and start decorating our town with the twinkle that can only mean one thing: Christmas is coming!

(Editor’s note: This edition of Port Gamble Gazette was ghost-written — er, guest-written — by Kelly Joines, assistant coordinator for Port Gamble Weddings and Events.)

The only thing spookier than trick-or-treating in Port Gamble on Halloween is how quickly the holidays are creeping up!

To kickstart our holiday happenings, we are spending most of November gearing up for our annual Country Christmas.

Events for November- Ghost Walk: Nov. 12. Although this is the only Ghost Walk for November, it’s one of the best times to come as we have new stories and recordings of hauntings. Gathered by our paranormal experts, the captured ghoulish moments occurred only a couple weeks ago during our second annual Ghost Conference.

Ghost walk time: 7-9 p.m. Location: Begin at the Port Gamble Museum. Fee: $15 per person. Reservations and prepayment are required. This will be a guided tour throughout town with stops at places with reported supernatural activity. Infrared cameras and recorders are allowed and encouraged. Dress in weather appropriate clothing and bring flashlights!

The tour will not be cancelled due to inclement weather. No kids under the age of 16 please.

– Port Gamble General Store & Café Holiday Open House: Nov. 12. Wear your party pants to this event as this is the General Store’s big bash of the year. Enjoy live music and bring any spare canned food items for ShareNet, as the store will be hosting a food drive simultaneously.  The open house is held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (360) 297-7636.

– Roots Rock Trail Race “Doppler” 50K: Nov. 20. For more information or to participate in scheduled runs, visit www.rootsrockrun.com.

Events for December- Country Christmas: Dec. 10-11. It’s our favorite time of the year! This Country Christmas is kicking off with our Fruitcake Contest. Some recipes call for a few weeks to “sit and let stand” so make sure to account for that wait this month. Also, if you can’t squeeze in a vacation to the North Pole, a staycation might just be the ticket. We will deck the halls of the Walker Ames as a warm winter wonderland. Bring the kids for letter writing to Santa, pictures and decorating activities to boost the holiday cheer.
