Five people were sent to the hospital following a two-vehicle collision on State Route 3 just north of the Kitsap Way exit at 1 p.m. on July 13. A 42-year-old Bremerton woman driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee changed lanes in front of a 35-year-old Port Angeles woman driving a 2000 Ford Escort. The Bremerton woman attempted to make a U-turn in the median and was struck from behind by the Ford Escort, causing the Cherokee to rotate and roll onto its roof. Both cars were totaled and towed from the scene. The Bremerton woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries. A 47-year-old Bremerton woman in the Jeep Cherokee was transported to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton with left side pain. The 35-year-old woman driving the Ford Escort was transported to Harrison Medical Center with shoulder, chest and hand pain. A 14- and 9-year-old were transported to Harrison with minor injuries. All were wearing seat belts. The 42-year-old woman driving the Jeep Cherokee may be charged with reckless driving.
Truck jackknifes on SR 3
A truck towing a trailer jackknifed on southbound State Route 3 just south of SR 303 shortly before 11:30 a.m. July 12, shutting down both southbound lanes for nearly two hours. A 49-year-old Bremerton woman driving the 2002 Toyota pickup and her 57-year-old male passenger were not injured in the crash. The truck was just south of SR 303 when the 18 1/2-foot travel trailer came loose due to an improper hitch system. The truck and trailer rotated, coming to rest on its side facing northbound in the southbound lanes of SR 3. The driver may be charged with loss of load.
