Stand Down offers resources to veterans and their families

Veterans and their families are invited to the summer 2016 Veterans Stand Down, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16 at the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd. in Bremerton.

BREMERTON — Veterans and their families are invited to the summer 2016 Veterans Stand Down, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16 at the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd. in Bremerton.

Complimentary services for veterans and their families will be available including vision screening, Dental Van, Veterans Assistance, housing, employment, education, counseling and more. Qualifying veterans and family members may also receive free clothing, sleeping bags, groceries and personal hygiene items.

This event is open to veterans and their families only. Please provide DD214, military retiree ID card or VA card. Unaccompanied family members must bring a DD214 and proof of relationship. Active duty transitioning out of the military or retiring by the end of 2016 are encouraged to attend to gather information and resources to assist in making their transition to civilian life as seamless as possible.

The event is sponsored by the S’Klallam Tribe, VFW 2669 Riders Group, Kitsap Sun, Suquamish Tribe, Kitsap Credit Union, Silverdale Chamber of Commerce, City of Bremerton, Puget Sound Energy, Walgreens, Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Kitsap County Veterans Advisory Board and Kitsap Area Veterans Alliance.

Service providers include Department of Veterans Affairs, Olympic College, Veteran Service Organizations, Kitsap Legal Services, Washington Department of VA, Abraham House, Asset Building Coalition, Housing Solutions Center, WorkSource, Department of Social and Health Service, Red Cross, Kitsap Community Resources, Kitsap Transit and Vet Center Mobile Unit.
