Steampunk is coming to Port Gamble for the first time ever — the SteamPort Gamble Steampunk Festival on Aug. 29.
Port Gamble’s Mrs. Muir’s House of Ghosts & Magic is hosting the festival. The theme for this highly anticipated event is “Time Travelers.”
In the Puget Sound region, there are few opportunities for those who enjoy being steampunk, so this event looks to be one of the best in the Northwest. If you’re looking for steampunk items, Mrs. Muir’s House of Ghosts & Magic has everything from clothing to accessories.
So what is steampunk? According to Wikipedia.org, “steampunk” refers to a sub-genre of science fiction and sometimes fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.
Although its literary origins are sometimes associated with the cyberpunk genre, steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 19th century’s British Victorian era or American “Wild West”; in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has maintained mainstream usage; or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power. It may, therefore, be described as neo-Victorian.
There is no better place and setting for this festival than Port Gamble and its Victorian architecture and town, built in the 19th century. Visitors to the festival are encouraged to dress up and venture around town to see steampunk vendors at the Port Gamble Theater. There will also be steampunk clothing and weapon demonstrations outdoors, musicians strolling around town, a steampunk art gallery and a Vintage Photo Studio, offering one-of-a-kind Tin Type photos.

Ghost Walk Tour dates announced
Port Gamble is home to what is arguably one of the most haunted buildings in Washington. The Walker-Ames house in Port Gamble has become a local hotspot for paranormal groups, psychics and investigators.
Anyone who has wandered the streets after dark, explored the Buena Vista Cemetery or participated in a ghost walk or investigation, does not need to stay long to know that Port Gamble has more going on than meets the eye. With recorded evidence going back as early as the 1950s, there are stories from nearly every building in town.
The popular annual Ghost Walks are conducted from 7–10 p.m. October through March, and typically sell out fast. Take a guided tour of Port Gamble highlighting the town’s history and paranormal experiences, and includes stops in the Walker-Ames House, Historic Museum, Post Office, old morgue and the Buena Vista Cemetery.
Here are the dates: Oct. 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 30, 31; Nov. 7; Dec. 5; Jan. 9; Feb. 6; and March 5.
Participants must be 16 or older to attend. It costs $25 per person, and reservations are required. Call us at 360-297-8074 for reservations and availability.
