KINGSTON — The month-long annual Used Book Sale at Stillwaters Environmental Center ends Oct. 5, 6 and 7. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Stillwaters, 26059 Barber Cut Off Road.
Earlier in the sale, books cost 25 cents to $1. The last weekend of the sale, books will be sold for $5 per grocery bag on Oct. 5, $3 per bag on Oct. 6, and all books free Oct. 7.
All proceeds from the sale will support the construction of trails, preservation of habitat, and environmental education in schools and the community. The Stillwaters Native Plant nursery will be open during the book sale so you can pick up plants for fall gardening.
“We hear two comments very frequently from first-time book sale customers: ‘Oh my! This is bigger than a book store! I better come again when I have a couple hours!’ and ‘I can’t believe how well organized the books are; it makes looking a lot easier,’ ” said Naomi Maasberg, Stillwaters director. There are children’s books, gift books, new books, old books, rare books and new books. This year, there is a large selection of books in the Religion and Philosophy section, thanks to the donation of most of biblical scholar George Ramsey’s library.
“Our selection covers all subjects — fiction and non-fiction,” Maasberg said. “Mysteries, sci-fi, light reading and the classics are some of the neatly categorized sections of fiction. In non-fiction, we have history, sociology, sports, art, health and fitness, nature, textbooks, home, crafts, gardening, cookbooks, reference, foreign language, religion, parenting, travel and much more. Large print books are grouped together.”
After the sale, Stillwaters will be looking for homes for the leftover books in good condition; call (360) 297-1226 or email info@stillwatersenvironmentalcenter.org.
