POULSBO — Widespread power outages are reported in North Kitsap from the overnight windstorm, with a total of 44,712 customers affected in Puget Sound Energy’s service area (see PSE’s outage map for outages and estimated restoration times).
“The peak number of outages happened around 1 a.m. with nearly 105,000 customers without power [systemwide],” PSE reported at 6 a.m. Dec. 12. “We’ve restored power to more than 182,000 customers since the wind storm started. So far, 237,000 PSE customers have been impacted by outages.
“More than 40 tree service crews are ready to assist. One of the bigger problems after a storm is debris on the roadways and in areas where work needs to be done. Clearing downed trees and branches is a first step to restoration.”
In North Kitsap, schools and ferries are operating on regular schedule.
“Miller Bay, at last report, is clear into Kingston but closed at Pebble Beach near Suquamish,” North Kitsap Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Michele Laboda reported on social media at 8:10 a.m. Dec. 12. “We have no reports of downed trees on Indianola Road, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any; one of our off-going firefighters is driving the route right now. Multiple downed trees in Indianola itself …”
Poulsbo Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Matson reported that her department responded to more than 44 calls overnight. “Portions of Lincoln and Totten are closed,” she reported at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 12.
The Poulsbo Fire Department’s Santa run was cancelled on Dec. 11. “We are sorry again to have to do this but Rudolph and Santa do not want to endanger anyone nor take the chance of being hurt for the Christmas eve trek they must make,” Matson reported. “Please try to see Santa on one of the other runs or on the 18th at Central Market.”
