POULSBO — First- and second-grade students from Gateway Christian Schools were able to get some time outside the classroom Tuesday afternoon for some caroling.

Led by second-grade teacher Linda Hemry, the students took an hour to visit as many businesses as they could before heading back to the school. The group sang traditional hymns and Christmas songs.

The caroling trip is something new at the school. Hemry said the goal is to become more interactive with the community.

Along with caroling this season, students, teachers and volunteers are selling handmade hats — supplies provided by Poulsbo Dental Center. Proceeds go toward the Sakila Sponsorship Program and can be purchased at the school or Poulsbo Dental Center. Jennifer Thornton said the office raised more than $90 in the first week of the fundraiser.
