Summer burn ban to take place on all state-protected lands

The state Department of Natural Resources announced that a burn ban on all state department-protected lands will begin July 1 and run through Sept. 30, according to a statement from the department.

The ban will apply to all outdoor burning at state-protected forests with the exceptions of recreational fires in approved fire pits within designated state, county, municipal or other campgrounds; department-approved fires used to enhance or restore ecosystems or forest health and other approval in writing by the department.

The use of gas and propane self-contained stoves and barbecues will continue to be allowed under the ban. The burn ban does not apply to federal lands.
