Suquamish hosting Canoe Journey July 28, 29

The Suquamish Tribe will be hosting the Tribal Canoe Journey during a two-day stint July 28-29 and is expecting over 100 canoes and between 8,000 and 9,000 people.

The canoe journey is a celebration of tribes from across the Pacific Northwest that travel from tribe to tribe, sharing songs and dances along the way, to end up at a final tribal destination for a week of sharing food, songs, dances and giveaways, per the Suquamish Tribe.

For those who are not participating in the journey, but would like to spectate, The tribe asks for respect and honor at the event by giving people space and respecting the process. The schedule of events is as follows:

July 28: Canoe families arrive in Suquamish (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.); Dinner (5 p.m.); Protocol (6 p.m. to midnight); and Canoe skipper meeting ( 7 p.m.)

July 29: To-go Breakfast (8-10 a.m.); and Canoes depart Suquamish for Muckleshoot landing (10 a.m. to noon)
