Swing for the Lights golf tournament

The Kingston-North Kitsap Rotary Club continues its fundraising campaign to purchase lights for the new track and athletic field at Kingston High School. The campaign’s theme, “Our Kids Shouldn’t Have to Play In the Dark,” is supported with an ad campaign, buttons, posters and banners around town. The goal for the campaign is approximately $200,000.

A big part of the fundraising effort is the second annual Swing for the Lights Golf Tournament June 13 at White Horse Golf Course in Kingston. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with a ‘shotgun scramble’ at 1 p.m. Dinner will immediately follow the tournament.

Cost is $200 per player, which includes green fees, a golf cart, boxed lunch, use of the driving range and a buffet dinner. The cost for dinner only is $30.

Last year’s inaugural tournament raised more than $10,000 for the lights, and Rotary expects to break that record this year.

While the Kingston Rotary is taking the lead in this effort to fund lights, the Kingston Kiwanis, KHS Booster Club and KHS student body are also supporting the campaign.

Local citizens and businesses can support the campaign in a number of ways: by purchasing “got 2 c 2 play” buttons available throughout town, taking advantage of sponsorship opportunities, or making a private donation at any branch of Kitsap Bank. Checks should be made payable to the Kingston Rotary Foundation

The lights will allow the athletic field to be used throughout the year, particularly in the dark winter hours. This benefits not only the school’s sport teams, but also provides a multi-sport resource for the community.
