Taser, padded helmet used on suspect with gun in bar parking lot

Police had to use a taser, two sets of handcuffs, leg restraints and a padded helmet to get an assault suspect under control to arrest him.

A 28-year-old Bremerton man was in Kitsap County Superior Court July 16 arrested on multiple warrants. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. He faces 20 years in prison and $40,000 in fines on those charges. Bail was $200,000.

Court records show Bremerton police, on Feb. 24 at 1:36 a.m., went to the 6800 block of Kitsap Way. Callers said a man pointed a gun at over a dozen people in the parking lot at a bar. Police made commands of the suspect, but he did not comply. A taser was used, along with two sets of handcuffs, to control him.

A bar employee said he went to break up a fight between the suspect and a couple. The suspect was punched so he went to get the gun. The suspect earlier had pulled a woman’s hair, causing her to cry.

The suspect would not walk under his own power so four officers carried him. Leg restraints were used as he refused to get into the police vehicle. He started banging his head against the middle partition so a red padded helmet was put on him. He fought against that happening so an officer used a hair hold on the suspect’s dreadlocks so the helmet could be strapped on.

The man also was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender. That bail was $50,000. He faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine on that charge, stemming from a 2022 warrant. The suspect’s background shows he was convicted of rape in 2013 as a juvenile and jumped bail.

Fire extinguisher as a weapon

A 51-year-old Olympia man was in Superior Court July 15 after using a fire extinguisher leading to a first-degree burglary charge.

He faces life in prison and $50,000 in fines. Bail was $50,000.

Kitsap deputies, court papers say, responded July 13 at 5:53 p.m. to the 11200 block of NE State Highway 104 in Kingston.

The caller said a man broke into a business and sprayed a victim with a fire extinguisher before barricading himself in a bathroom. When police pushed through they found the suspect behind a curtain and a storage container. The suspect said employees of the North Thurston School District were “proud boys” trying to kill him. He also said that he didn’t trust that the officer was real. He requested State Patrol help, and when they arrived he was taken into custody.

The victim said she had earlier heard noises in the bathroom, and told the suspect to leave because it was not for public use. She got scared and locked herself in her business before he broke in and sprayed her. Damage included a broken door window, bathroom with cabinets that were torn off and thrown around, and large hangars of clothing tossed about.

Assault, stolen property

A 33-year-old Bremerton man was in Kitsap County Superior Court July 15 charged with second-degree assault.

Bail was $60,000, He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Court records show Bremerton police responded to the 3400 block of Spruce Avenue July 7 at 12:42 p.m. A man came to the address wanting his motorcycle helmet. When told he didn’t have it, the victim told the man to leave. The man later returned, hit the victim in the face multiple times then kicked him multiple times when he fell to the ground. The suspect wanted the helmet so he could ride a motorcycle that was stolen.

The man was also charged with possession of stolen property. He faces five years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Court papers say on Dec. 3, 2023 at 10:49 p.m. Bremerton police met with a suspect regarding a theft at Walmart. The man is known to wear women’s clothing and a wig and was seen in the video of the theft. The man had been given some cards and a list of items to buy as the woman said she was not allowed inside the store. The suspect said he assumed the cards were the woman’s.
