Teens arrested after graffiti binge

ISLAND LAKE

Two teenage boys suspected of spray-painting houses near Island Lake, one wearing a “silky” red robe and a fedora, were arrested early Sunday morning.

Some of the graffiti had “Crip references,” another graffito said “kitten” and another used the n-word.

Kitsap County sheriff’s deputies were called to the 13600 block of Hillcrest Street NW at about 1:50 a.m. after a homeowner spotted the two boys, ages 14 and 15, in his driveway, according to sheriff’s office reports.

The homeowner reported that the boys appeared to be wearing Halloween costumes. He found that his car had been vandalized, resulting in about $1,000 of damage.

In all, three homes and associated cars were vandalized with spray paint, along with the Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue station 42.

A deputy found one of the boys walking on Central Valley Road, and the other hiding in the bushes. The boy walking on the road was wearing a black fedora hat, a red robe and holding a white stuffed bear, the deputy wrote.

The two boys admitted to the graffiti and to entering a vacant house in the area. The boys said they both lived at the same foster home. One boy was said to belong to the “Juggalo” gang, fans of the rap-metal music group Insane Clown Posse.

Both youths were taken to the Kitsap County juvenile detention center and booked for investigation of first-degree malicious mischief and second-degree criminal trespass.
