Thank heavens for little girls (and boys)

Imagine if there really was nothing good to do in North Kitsap. If parents and the community shunned the idea of extra curricular activities, youth sports and (gasp) providing creative outlets for local kids.

If reading, writing and arithmetic and preparation for the working world were the extent of our commitment to them, it’d be a sad state of affairs. Fortunately, that’s not the case. Fortunately, the adults in this region get excited about everything from soccer games and band concerts to playground projects and library reading programs.

There are currently plenty of things for our youth to get involved in but even so, why rest on our laurels? Why not go that extra step? These are certainly among the questions that keep those pushing for a local Boys & Girls Club awake at night. They still see a need here and they’ve set out to fill it.

Fund-raising efforts are off on the right foot but still have a ways to go. If any community on the planet can make this program work though, it’s North Kitsap.

The reason is simply that every volunteer who has ever cut into his or her weekend to build something for the kids, every parent who has took time to encourage their children at activities knows that the old adage “What comes around goes around” is true.

Supporters of the NKB&GC realize that the strong minds and bodies they’re working to build today will become the pillars of our community tomorrow and for many, many years to come.
