Sometimes a small town newspaper like the North Kitsap Herald forgets why it is here. Elections, schools’ happenings, planning issues, local events and the like are extremely important to everyone and vital information we do our very best to share them with our readers.
But when the Herald saw that Kingston Food Bank was struggling to come up with items to fill, what, by some standards, can be considered a small amount of Thanksgiving baskets, we gave our readership a tight deadline to see what it could do to help.
What a response. Twenty-three bags of food and $275 (as well as another $100 for Fishline) were generously donated in a few short days. It’s on-the-fly responses to needs in our community that make North Kitsap such a great place to call home.
The support helped reaffirm the fact that our small newspaper can make a difference and that in times of crisis, can work in concert with our neighbors to improve the world around us. Your actions in this matter will make a difference to local families, friends and neighbors this Thanksgiving.
Thank you all for reminding us why we are here and for giving your neighbors in need a helping hand at this critical time of the year.
