Let’s hit off this column with an update on sports. First, the girls tennis team is in the middle of their game season, “We’re doing really well so far. We’re first in league and we hope to make it to state again,” varsity captain Stephanie Fyfe tells me.
In track students are starting to break last year’s school records. “School records are being broken like Kobe breaks ankles.” Nick Gasser, a two time record holder, said.
In fast pitch, “We’re a good team, the whole team meshes together pretty well and we all get along and depending on a few more of our games, we could be heading to districts this year hopefully.” Cassidy Johnson said.
What Sam Fox told me about boys golf is, “I’m speaking for the whole team when I say that we all feel very fortunate to have such a nice golf facility like White Horse. We are making good improvements on the team and are looking forward to a good rest of the season, as well as some nice golf weather.”
And our last two sports: Boys soccer is having a fantastic season, Junior varsity is eight to zero and varsity is two to zero making both teams undefeated. Josh Bell said about his team, “The Kingston soccer team is like one big family; we win together, we lose together, except we never lose.”
And finally we have baseball. Jacob Mick and Josh Decoutua quoted from the great words of the Wu-Tang clan, “We be tossin’ and flossin; our style is awesome.” All spring sports are doing a fantastic job. A reminder to all hopeful Buccaneer cheerleaders: try-outs for the squad are May 15-21. Good luck to all.
In other news from Kingston High School this last month, we refinished with the last of the WASL, sophomores having to take reading, writing, math, and science, but no longer is it required to pass the WASL to graduate. Sophomores and freshman are thankful the WASL will no longer be in the school anymore.
The Associated Student Body is having elections for the upcoming year 2009-2010. Every position is up for students to grab. Students must come up with a short speech and go through voting to be accepted into ASB.
On May 2 the senior class of 2009 is having their prom from 8-11 p.m. at Bell Harbor in Seattle. Students are still excited to celebrate their last dance as a class at Kingston High School.
Kingston High School students and staff would like to congratulate Mike Colasurdo this month who will be attending Western University in the fall. Colasurdo wants to achieve a double major in anthropology and psychology with a minor in creative writing. We wish you the best of luck. Only a month and a half until summer Buccaneers.
