Thieves used a sledgehammer to break a hole in a wall to burglarize a Silverdale coin shop Dec. 5, according to reports from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
The first deputy was dispatched to an alarm sounding at Christman’s Coins & Fine Jewelry at 9333 Silverdale Way NW. at 7:55 a.m. Two other deputies and a search dog arrived later.
The back entrance to the business next to the shop was under construction and the thieves forced entry through that back door. Deputies observed a 3-by-3 foot hole in the base of a dry wall leading to the coin shop. A sledgehammer and several coins were found on the floor next to the hole.
The value of items stolen is estimated to be in the thousands, but owner said the store’s most valuable merchandise is kept in a safe.
Coins found scattered on the ground, apparently left behind, were valued at $944.
There are no suspects, according to reports.
