KINGSTON — Three homes in Miller Bay Estates were the targets of graffiti, two of them with obscene or racially derogatory messages.

The homes, located in the neighborhoods off Beachwood Avenue, were all apparently tagged with the same dark green spray paint, according to a report from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Department.

There are no suspects right now, Kitsap County Sheriff’s spokesperson Deputy Scott Wilson said.

A call to law enforcement Tuesday morning regarding a racially derogatory message written on a home brought the sheriff’s department to the area. The graffitied slur, estimated to cost $500 to repair, is thought to be directed at a neighbor, who is African American, according to the report.

Neighbors were upset by the graffiti. One neighbor, in tears, declined to talk to the press. Another neighbor had moved her van in front of her house to block the racially derogatory message.

Following the initial call, the responding deputy found graffiti at two homes on Seavista Drive with the same paint, on a garage door and on a fence.

Though he could not immediately say if graffiti has been a problem in Miller Bay, Wilson did note graffiti was a problem last year, when signs around Kingston were tagged with “lurk” and other tags.

“It has been an issue recently in Kingston,” Wilson said.
