Silverdale Farmers Market open Tuesdays through end of September.

It’s that time of year again.

Warm weather and sunny skies greeted the Silverdale Farmers Market as it opened for the season Tuesday, April 21. The market is open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. every Tuesday now through the end of September.

Silverdale Farmers Market owner Monica Phillips said the market has been located in the Silverdale Beach Hotel parking lot for years, but starting this Tuesday, the market will be on the grass area to the left of the hotel and directly behind Taco Bell.

Phillips said the market is filled with a lot of the same vendors as years past, but a few new craft vendors are on tap for this season.

People will find fresh baked bread, jams, honey, eggs, beef jerky, vegetable plants, garden plants, herbs, birdhouses, bird feeders, garden decor and solar lamps at the farmers market. Phillips said fresh foods also are for sale including empanadas, teriyaki chicken skewers, scones, cobblers and Caribbean food from Island Jamz Restaurant in Keyport.

Phillips said people can get great deals and better products at farmers markets than at grocery stores. She said the vegetables and fruits sold at Silverdale Farmers Market are as fresh as it gets, making for better, healthier foods than what’s sold at some stores.

“Even if the produce is the same price or a little more expensive (than the grocery store), it’s going to be fresher,” she said.

Phillips said three farmers from Eastern Washington will come sell fruits, like cherries and peaches, at the Silverdale Farmers Market again this season. She said last year’s cherry season wasn’t very good, but this year there should be plenty of high-quality cherries to go around.

“Last year was just a pathetic season, but this year looks promising,” she said. “We should have a good cherry season.”

Phillips said fruits are much better to buy at farmers markets as opposed to grocery stores because people are getting a tree-ripe, high-quality product.

She said people often start their grocery shopping at the farmers market, then buy the things they couldn’t find there at grocery stores.

Phillips said people can do almost all of their grocery shopping at the Silverdale Farmers Market because its vendors sell everything from vegetables and fruits to bread and eggs.

“People will be able to come down here and pretty much do their grocery shopping,” she said.
