KINGSTON — A three-year-old boy was flown by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center with critical injuries after he fell approximately eight feet from a second-story window at his home Sunday afternoon.
North Kitsap Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to the home at 1:06 p.m. after family members heard the fall, came to the boy’s aid and called 911. Based on the potential for life-threatening injuries from such a fall, the paramedic called for an Airlift Northwest helicopter to rendezvous at a landing zone at David Wolfle Elementary near Kingston to take the boy to the regional trauma center.
As of Sunday evening, the boy remains at Harborview. He is in stable condition following surgery.
Annually, across the country, about 3,300 children under the age of 5 suffer injuries in window falls, according to Safe Kids USA. For additional tips on preventing childhood fall injuries, see their website at www.safekids.org.
