Tree-cycling program starts early, ends late

In order to accommodate both Type A personalities and procrastinators, Kitsap County will operate its free Christmas Tree recycling program from Dec. 26 through Jan. 15.

Trees will be accepted every day during this period, except for New Year’s Day. The trees will be chipped, so all material should be completely organic.

Residents are reminded to remove all nails, tinsel, lights and ornaments before recycling their tree.

Flocked trees cannot be accepted because they are potentially harmful to the environment.

Also, do not bring wreaths or garland.

County crews will drop off chips at accessible residences near their chipping locations while quantities last.

Interested residents can get free chips by downloading the form at www.kitsapgov.com/sw, or calling (360) 337-5777.
