“SUQUAMISH – Tribal Gaming Commissioners could be removed from office pending the outcome of a review into recent licensing and regulatory actions taken by the commission, according to a statement issued by the Suquamish Tribal government Thursday. The investigation began because of complaints concerning the commission. The statement is in response to speculation in the community that the council is trying to disband the gaming commission altogether. Bennie Armstrong, tribal council chairman, said Thursday that the council is reviewing whether or not the board members should be replaced, not abolishing the commission. The inquiry includes deciding whether each commissioner possesses the specific knowledge and experience in business management, administration, and administrative procedures statutorily requisite to serving on the commission. The statement also said that although the commissioners are under review, they are valued and respected members of the Suquamish Tribal Community of excellent character, honesty and integrity. The commissioners will have the chance to be heard by the Tribal Council before any action is taken. The review also includes actions by and related to employees, licensees and others, according to the statement. The gaming commission enforces federal and state gaming regulations for the Clearwater Casino. Its members are appointed by the tribal council. The commission operates separately from the casino management. “
