Truck overturns, closes highway for 5 hours

A truck hauling a trailer overturned on Highway 16 Nov. 25, closing westbound lanes for about five hours.

The crash, which occurred around 5:30 p.m. near the Tremont Street overpass, caused traffic backups as crews worked to prevent the truck from falling onto the roadway below.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, State Patrol trooper Katherine Weatherwax said. Two dogs were safely removed from the vehicle.

While responders cleared the scene, traffic was rerouted through alternate routes, causing delays from Gorst to Sedgwick.
