SUQUAMISH —Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two men for suspected arson Thursday night at the scene of a house fire in Suquamish.

Deputies heard crashing noises and saw flashes of light inside a vacant house on Center Street, when they were called to the area by neighbors at about 11 p.m., according to a Sheriff’s report.

Flames grew in one corner of the house and deputies heard a man say “Let’s get out of here,” the report said. One man exited the house and was arrested by a deputy outside. The second man was arrested after being ordered out of the house by deputies.

Firefighters arrived at 11:30 p.m. and saw flames and heavy smoke in the 800-square-foot home, according to a North Kitsap Fire & Rescue release. Many of the home’s windows and doors were boarded over, impeding the firefighters’ efforts to locate the fire. Crews brought the blaze under control in 20 minutes but firefighters spent several more hours extinguishing hotspots throughout the house.

The fire damaged a downstairs room and an attic. It is unknown whether the home’s owners are insured, according to the North Kitsap Fire release.

Both suspects – a 20-year-old Poulsbo man and a 21-year-old Suquamish man – were arrested on suspicion of arson and first degree burglary, according to the Sheriff’s office. They were each booked into Kitsap County jail on $125,000 bail.

The county Fire Marshal and Sheriff’s office were still investigating the fire Friday.

Correction added. It is unknown whether the house was insured.
