Two men are in custody on a variety of charges stemming from investigations into at least six residential burglaries in Central and North Kitsap, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).
Tony Dean Capps, 24, and Corey Michael Smith, 27, both of Silverdale, were arrested early Friday, Nov. 7 and appeared in Kitsap County Superior Court later that afternoon.
Sheriff’s deputies and detectives have been investigating the burglaries which occurred in October and early November. Several of them appeared to be connected and were in close proximity to each other, according to KCSO.
A neighbor of two victims was able to provide video surveillance images that assisted deputies and detectives in identifying the suspects.
One of the suspects was seen driving a vehicle that had previously been identified as being involved in the crimes, according to KCSO. A sheriff’s deputy stopped the vehicle Thursday night for a traffic infraction and arrested him for DUI.
He was interviewed by detectives and more information and leads were discovered, according to KCSO.
Detectives served a search warrant on a residence in the 14100 block of Thomas Drive N.W. in Silverdale around 2:30 a.m. Friday and took custody of the second suspect.
Detectives found stolen property in the residence exceeding $25,000, which included:
• Flat-screen television, a laptop computer, video game console, computer monitors and digital cameras;
• Jewelry including watches, rings and earrings;
• Firearms including rifles, shotguns, a handgun and ammunition;
• Vinyl records and compact discs;
• coins and other “monetary denominations;”
• Household items including dining utensils, suitcases and backpacks;
• “Edged weapons.”
Smith remains in Kitsap County Jail on charges of forgery, first-degree possessing stolen property, felony possession of a firearm, residential burglary and an outstanding warrant. His bail is set at $25,000.
Capps was booked into jail for residential burglary, being a felon in possession of a firearm, trafficking in stolen property and DUI. His bail was initially set at $100,000, but he has since been released.
