In the single contested Poulsbo City Council race, voters have a choice between a former former councilman and Navy veteran, and a current councilwoman and business owner.
Kim Crowder, who is finishing her first term on the council, said growth should be watched, noting that Poulsbo may be growing too fast for its own good.
“We may be taking on more growth than is necessary at this time,” she said,
Jim Henry, who was unseated in 2007 after two terms on the council, said growth is inevitable, and is the life-blood of city government.
“Nothing gets cheaper, nothing gets easier,” he said.
Another difference mentioned by the candidates was what they see as their constituency, those living within the political boundaries of the city, or the North Kitsap community at large.
Henry said his primary responsibility was to Poulsbo residents.
“They come first,” he said.
Crowder said perspective is valuable.
“Your hearts always has got the city first, but you also have to keep in mind we’re in Kitsap County,” she said.
The position lasts four years and pays $6,000.
