POULSBO — The city of Poulsbo is planning a few considerable touchups of its downtown streets over the coming year.
The city recently received a determination of nonsignificance for a few street projects it has its eyes set on. The determination — a formal process to analyze the environmental impacts of development — was issued last week, though the projects will not begin until sometime in 2014.
The city will set a date once it has hired a contractor to take on the job.
Third Avenue is expected to receive the most severe treatment. Approximately 1,500 feet of 3rd Avenue between Hostmark Street and Iverson Street will receive work on its curbs, gutters and sidewalks.
The road will be repaved and fitted with retaining walls, stormwater enhancements and tree box filters. A water main will be replaced under the road. New parking and bike lane striping will also be painted.
The city is also expected to install tree box filters and rain gardens along Jensen Way, Front Street and in the King Olav parking lot. The tree boxes and rain gardens are intended to filter stormwater.
