Martha & Mary Children’s Services, in partnership with the USDA Summer Meals Program, is serving free summer meals for all kids younger than age 18 who need them.
The programs begin Friday, June 18, and continue into September at Poulsbo Elementary School. The meal times are 8-9 a.m. for breakfast and an expanded snack will be served from 3:30–4:30 p.m.
Children enrolled in the summer Martha & Mary Kids program have an additional treat in store for them beginning in June. Taking a direct approach to educating children about the food they eat and where it comes from, shares have been purchased (through a generous grant) in two local organic farms.
Every Tuesday afternoon Martha & Mary Kids will go to either Butler Green Farms on Bainbridge Island or Abundantly Green Farm in Silverdale. Children will be visiting animals at these working farms while collecting the week’s offering of colorful produce.
