PORT ORCHARD — Take a week off to rest that tennis elbow because the Van Zee Park tennis courts are closed for maintenance.
The courts have been closed for resurfacing from July 6 to July 16, according to a news release from the City of Port Orchard.
Mark Dorsey, director of public works and engineering, said he doesn’t believe the Van Zee courts have ever been resurfaced.
The maintenance is weather dependent. So while the timing may be a burden for players hoping to practice their backhand during the next few weeks of sunshine, it’s the best time for the resurfacing work.
Parking at 300 Tremont St. will also be closed for staging and equipment during the maintenance, Dorsey said.
July 16 is the most conservative estimate for the project’s completion, Dorsey said. The court could be reopened to the public before that date if the work is completed ahead of time.
The parking lot off Poplar Street will remain open, according to the news release.
