Verna Peterson, a lifelong resident of Poulsbo, passed away peacefully at Martha and Mary Nursing Home on June 6. She was 89.

POULSBO — Verna Peterson, a lifelong resident of Poulsbo, passed away peacefully at Martha and Mary Nursing Home on June 6. She was 89.

She was born Sept. 1, 1923 to Julius and Christine Jacobsen.

After graduating from North Kitsap High School with the Class of ‘41, she began work at Poulsbo First National Bank. She worked for various banks until her retirement in 1978.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway Lodge No. 44. Verna enjoyed camping, salmon fishing at Pillar Point and working in her flower garden.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Cecil; son, James of Poulsbo; daughter, Janet Skallerud of Asker, Norway; and granddaughters Lindsey and Inga Skallerud of Oslo, Norway.

Preceding her in death were her sister, Olga Engblom; and her brothers, Arne and Harold Jacobsen.

Donations in her name may be made to the Franciscan Hospice Foundation. At her request, a private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
