Vi-ing for her share of food

Hunger in our world today is a terrible thing but with most of the focus on the ailing nations across the globe, sometimes folks in our own community tend to fall by the wayside.

Hunger in our world today is a terrible thing but with most of the focus on the ailing nations across the globe, sometimes folks in our own community tend to fall by the wayside.

This is apparently happening right here in North Kitsap as Kingston Food Bank Director Vi Weaver is apparently playing the role of “Old Mother Hubbard.” Going into Thanksgiving week, the cupboards at the food bank are looking pretty bare.

Not a bad time for the community to step in and help fill things up. Efforts are under way in Kingston but it’s all too easy to sit back and tell others that they should lend a hand.

So, the Herald will be giving its good neighbors in Kingston a hand this Thanksgiving as we host our first annual “Let them eat Turkey” food drive. (Ironically, turkey and frozen items are things we can’t take due to space constraints in our office’s refrigerator.)

Even so, non-perishable items are most welcome.

Pumpkin pie mixes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, canned veggies and the like can be dropped off at the Herald, 18887 Highway 305 in Poulsbo, during business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (We typically start earlier and often leave a lot later but we suggest donors stick to our ‘regular’ hours.)

Folks can also cut the middle man out of this (no, no, our feelings won’t be hurt) and take their donations directly to the Kingston Food Bank. A few bucks can go a long way toward helping your North Kitsap neighbors have a happier holiday.
