POULSBO — Brad Watts, Mike Eliason, David Smith and Mike Brown could easily be called the Fantastic Four by this year’s Viking Fest organizers.

After festival organizers sent out a financial S.O.S. because of an $8,000 funding shortfall, those four men and their respective organizations stepped forward to ensure this year’s event goes off as planned.

“We were able to get what we needed,” said Viking Fest secretary Kathi Foresee Thursday night. “Fireworks are still a possibility.”

Smith and Brown, who are the developers for Poulsbo Place II, are this year’s parade sponsors, while Watts, who owns Valley Nursery, and Eliason, who is the Kitsap Realtors Association governmental affairs director, will be the co-hosts of the live remote by Seattle country radio station 94.1 FM KMPS on May 12 at Valley Nursery on Bond Road.

Eliason said he didn’t realize the festival was in dire financial straits until he read the plea from organizers in the April 14 edition of the North Kitsap Herald.

“We’re just glad we found out about it,” Eliason said. “We’re always glad to help.”

The exact time and schedule for the live remote will be announced at a later date, Foresee said.

“We’re about halfway there on the fireworks,” she said. “I would feel really good if we can get another $4,000.”

That amount can come from any number of groups or individuals as long as the overall funding goal is met, she said.

While fireworks are still an unknown, presale wristbands for the carnival and festival T-shirt and sweatshirt sales are slated to begin Tuesday, Foresee said.

“There is a limited amount of wristbands available, and they will be first-come, first-served,” she said.

The $15 wristbands will only be available at Viking Bank on State Route 305. The T-shirts and sweatshirts can be purchased at 1st Security Bank in Poulsbo Village.
